It’s been a year in the making. A full year of planning, writing, editing, photographing and designing. It was a mammoth task and I was the lucky person given the lead on the project. Our goal was clear… to create a well-structured resource with a strong layout and navigation, a logical content flow and progression,[…]
The 2017 Northern Hemi winter was my tenth year visiting Japan. With the preceding seven or eight years holding longer stints for me, I was content to shorten this year’s trip to just six weeks; more work for 360nz back home in Wanaka, a tad more summer (when it finally showed up), and plenty of time riding dirt instead of snow.
During the first half of 2016 I spent a great deal of time focused on a new project that would bring together two of the main aspects of my working life; web design and snowboarding.
The year was 2007. The first ever iPhone was announced. The 7th book in the Harry Potter series sold 11million copies in its first 24hrs on the shelves. Shaun White was still the man to beat in both snowboard halfpipe and slopestyle. AND… it was my first taste of the incredulously deep and oh-so-light Japanese pow pow! Little did I know this would be the start of long, affectionate relationship with the land of the rising sun.
Following on from representing Snowboard Instruction New Zealand at the 2015 Interski event in Ushuaia, Argentina, I was fortunate enough to squeeze in a 10 day snowboarding road trip in Chile. Here’s a short video from the trip, focused mostly around time lapse shooting (opening shots of the sunsets over Santiago are available to license)…
After reading that title, you might be thinking Olympics or X-Games, or some other equivalent event, but no… My competitive abilities never reached that far. I did get to stand on the podium next to Terje Håkonsen though! The 2015 Banked Slalom at Treble Cone was the most fun event I’ve ever entered – and[…]
My era of working with Niseko Academy is at an end, however my connections with Japan and Niseko are still alive and kicking! It all began back in 2010, whilst floating around Hokkaido, finishing off the Snow-search Japan guidebook; I met and begun working with Brian Findlay, the main man behind Niseko Academy. With the[…]
This past New Zealand winter I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of six representatives from Snowboard Instruction New Zealand to go to Interski in Argentina, September 2015. Over the next year, on the build-up to the event, I’ll be working closely with the other five guys on the Snowboard Team, as well[…]
Taking a trip to snowboard again at the old haunts from my Snow-search Japan writing days has been well-etched in my mind for the past few years. At the end of my rather compressed season in Hokkaido, Japan this year I managed to squeeze in a week-long road trip in Honshu, revisiting the resorts of[…]
Time is becoming a much more valuable commodity in my life these days. It was very hard to drag myself away from New Zealand this year, especially with 360qw going so well and the sun in Wanaka shining so strong. None-the-less I’m back in Niseko, Japan, working on the ground with the 360niseko boys (it’s[…]
